My wonderful husband Leo is one of thousands of people in the UK who fall under the Transgender umbrella. Every day in the UK and around the world, there are people who are battling on every day despite the fact that they struggling with gender dysphoria.

Leo has been on the waiting list for over 12 months, and ‘out’ for longer. I am so proud of the progress he has made so far outside of that. We are blessed with a supportive family, and Leo has legally changed his name by deedpoll – Hello, Mister Leolin!

But there are more steps that we need to take!

Unfortunately for Leo, as is the case for many, the waiting lists for the Gender Identity Clinics are getting longer and longer as the demands for the service increase. This means many are turning to private clinics and physicians, but this comes with a cost which is often per appointment. It’s not only the waiting lists which are crippling, there are many obstacles on the way which prolongs the agonising wait to do something about it.

Luckily for Leo and the transgender community, there are options available which can help! There are services such as private clinics, and Gendercare UK which can provide assessments and bridging prescriptions whilst individuals are awaiting appointments from the NHS. And the best thing? Whilst some mean the NHS will not take your appointments further, Gendercare UK work with your own GP and mean that you can continue with your Transition on the NHS even after appointments with their clinicians!

Gendercare UK are London based, and whilst they do offer some appointments and followups via telephone and Skype, there is a cost and some face to face appointments are a requirement.

There are two initial appointments with Gendercare UK, each one racking in at between £250 to £300 per session. So what I am asking is if you could spare whatever you have to help us raise the funds to pay for the appointments, and help toward the cost of travel as my husband and I live in the North East. So it’s going to be a little bit of a trek, as you can imagine!
